How can I make my dental care more affordable?

A beautiful, healthy-looking smile doesn’t happen by chance – you have to work at it, and it helps to have a plan!

One of the significant issues facing patients, patients’ wallets and dentists is that most of us don’t visit our dentist regularly enough.

The irregularity and infrequency of dental check-ups are causing many dental problems for us as patients.

According to recent UK data on oral health:

  • It’s estimated that only 56.1% of adults visit a dentist as often as they should

  • The most common dental treatment adults receive is a scale and polish

  • Just 58.2% of children visit a dentist regularly

  • Up to a quarter of young children have tooth decay, usually impacting an average of three to four teeth

  • The rise for dental check-ups has only grown by 20% in the past 40 years

Even more alarming …

  • Almost 3 million tooth extractions were performed on adults in 2018-19 (on the NHS).

  • 895,000 tooth extractions were performed on children in 2018-19 (on the NHS).

What does all this mean?

It’s more important than ever to take care of our teeth and gum to avoid serious health problems in the future and to reduce financial pressure both on the NHS and our wallets.

Hermitage Dental Practice's maintenance plans are intended to make our patients attend our practice regularly for preventive care at least twice a year.

According to research, routine dental attendance is associated with a better oral health outcomes. Those with long term regular dental attendance reported better oral health and less tooth loss and cavities.

Prevention is better than cure

Dental appointments shouldn’t just be made when you have a toothache or damage a tooth. Prevention is always better (and cheaper) than needing dental treatment, and there are plenty of ways a dental maintenance plan can help.

Joining a plan means patients can budget for their routine dental care with a small monthly fee.

Having a maintenance plan enables you to book dental health reviews including x-rays and hygiene appointments, knowing that your monthly fees have covered the costs

Something else to smile about

Besides spreading the cost of routine dental care, signing up for one of Hermitage Dental Practices care plans entitles members to a 10% discount on most treatments, priority emergency appointments (included in the plan) and access to the global dental scheme which covers our patients for emergency care if the practice is closed or if you are more than 25 miles away including abroad https://globaldentalscheme.co.uk/

Why do we invite patients to join our dental plans?

We don’t want to prevent anyone from getting the routine dental care they need, and we don’t want you to miss out on the excellent level of dental care we provide.

For this reason, we provide affordable dental maintenance plans to suit you.

What is a dental plan?

A dental plan like those offered at Hermitage Dental Practice makes it easy for patients to afford routine dental treatment to meet their ongoing dental needs at a discounted price. The benefits are many and include:

  • Preventative oral health advice to halt dental problems in their tracks before they progress

  • Scheduled monthly payments that enable you to budget for any private dental care not included in your plan such as fillings, extractions, root treatments or crowns etc.

  • Regular appointments with one of our highly experienced private dentists who will work with you to treat your teeth

  • Complimentary hygiene appointments

  • 10% discount on most treatments

  • Complimentary emergency appointments on the same day if you contact us at 8.30am

  • Priority appointment slots

  • Access to the global dental scheme https://globaldentalscheme.co.uk/

What’s included?

Dental check-up:

Clinical examination to catch problems early – you can see how your teeth look by looking into a mirror, but a lot may be happening beneath the gums without you being aware of it. Dentists don’t just solve problems – they help prevent them too. Potential issues include the onset of gum disease and tooth decay. Not only do these issues cause bad breath and possible tooth loss, but did you know they increase your risk of other health complications, including heart disease, diabetes and stroke?

When it comes to oral health, being proactive by paying regular visits to your dentist means they can catch any issues early and prevent them from developing into something more complex and expensive.

Checking for signs of oral cancer

This is something a dentist will do at every check-up. Not only does a dentist check for signs of oral cancer, but also neck and head cancer. Typically this means checking for lumps on the head or neck and red or white patches in the mouth. While typically there is nothing unusual to find, these checks could potentially save your life.

X-rays

These are used at our dentist’s discretion to minimise the impact of radiation and help to evaluate your oral health, and identify problems like impacted teeth, decay and cavities.

Hygienist appointment

This includes:

  • A scale and polish

  • Removal of hardened plaque and tartar

  • Advice on oral care at home

  • Fresher breath and a more confident brighter smile

How does a dental plan work at Hermitage Dental Practice?

It’s super-easy with no complicated paperwork to fill out. Instead, everything is handled online. Patients will be sent a link to sign up for their bespoke dental plan by email or you can complete the sign up process in reception on one of our tablets.

In addition to maintenance plans, we also offer 0% finance for patients wanting or needing treatment but struggling to find upfront fees.

0% finance without a deposit

We’d hate for anyone not to get the necessary dental treatment they either want or need. Putting off essential treatment will only worsen matters and lead to more complicated dental work and escalating costs.

We provide flexible financing options across a comprehensive range of dental services and treatments. 0% finance is a better alternative than credit cards or high-interest loans, and spreading the cost of your treatment gives you greater flexibility in the ongoing care of your smile.
